How to do bold and italic text in Facebook chat

My girlfriend asked me how to do bold and italic text in Facebook chat. I didn’t know, so I did some research and it turns out you can easily add bold text or italics to your Facebook chat by adding small code around it. I guess bold text can help emphasize your facebook chats, and italics can make your text look different. It’s not really a new font for Facebook chat, but it’s kind of cool. Here’s the code to make your text italic or bold on Facebook chat:

Bold text – *surround your text with stars*

Italic text – _surround your text with underscore_

Get it? Put *stars* around your text to bold it, and put _underscores_ to make it italic! Enjoy your new bold and italic text in Facebook chat!

Update – As the very smart Alex pointed out in the comments, _surrounding with underscores_ does, of course, underline the text. Let’s keep looking for the italic markers!

Right, there’s no way implemented yet to italicize. I wanted to know for sure so I poked and prodded through the code and found the bit that handles bold and underlines, but there’s nothing there for italics. (My most recent post right now on my website link is about this topic).

Okay really, in forums you put in: (Please note the _ are not needed in the actual code)
[_b][/b_] = Bold
[_i][/i_} = Italics
[_u][/u_] = Underline
Facebook has a COMPLETELY independent chat program. The programming code for facebook chat is a simple one that is used for psychobabble(c)!!!
What it will most likely end up being is something along the lines of // so just wait for the next big Facebook update.

Basically, due to the different coding used in both Facebook, and Facebook chat, as they are two seperate bodies, merged into a webpage, the text programming is different.
In Facebook, when writing notes etc, italics is available by using a form of JavaScript … by typing
Italic Text
this will work in the main Facebook body, such as notes.
However Facebook Chat uses a different form of coding, in which italic text, to my knowledge, hasn’t been written. So unfortunately, Italics is not available in Facebook Chat. However I’d love for someone to prove me wrong… Italics would definately be cool
